Franco Alfano’s vocal chamber music constitutes a significant part of the Neapolitan composer’s output. The five transcriptions for cello and piano presented here are not only an opportunity for cellists to try their hand at a musical form not originally intended for their instrument, but are also designed to contribute to the rediscovery and revalorisation of the historical and musical significance of one of the most representative figures ‘tout court’ of Italy in the twentieth century.
